DUBAI: Under the patronage of Sheikha Latifa Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Zayed University Alumni is organising its first walkathon on Friday. This event aims to raise awareness and support Friends of Cancer Patients organisation that provides supporting services to people who suffer from cancer.
The walkathon will start at 5:30pm and registration will be open from 3:30pm at the Dubai Police Officer’s Club. Participants will have the opportunity of complimentary medical check-ups, nutrition advice and assessment.
The walkathon will be inaugurated with a marching band in announcement of the 3km walk which will start at the Dubai Police Officers Club to Latifa Hospital and back to the Officers Club.
The event is organised in association with Dubai Police, Dubai Health Authority, Zakum Development Company and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Sports and Physical Fitness programmes.
Side events will include a 5-10 minutes play about cancer and Friends of Cancer Patients which will be performed by Crescent English High School, in addition to a martial arts performance.
President of Zayed University Alumni Association, Noura Al Suwaidi, said: “This event is part of our social responsibility programme and commitment toward our community. This event has attracted 75 volunteers from Zayed University and the community who joined hands to raise awareness about a sickness that has increased recently in the UAE.”
President of Friends of Cancer Patients, Ameera Bin Karam said: “We are blessed with a wise leadership and strongly bonded society that always join hands to empower those who are vulnerable among us.”
