The Centre was formally opened by HE Qadhi Saeed Al Murooshid, Director General of the Dubai Health Authority with Prof. Hans Bauerfeind, CEO of Bauerfeind, and Karl Schmidt, General Manager of OTB, in the presence of senior officials from the DHA, Rashid Hospital, Bauerfeind and MPC Healthcare.
With an investment of Dhs2m, the OTB Centre is located on the hospital grounds, and covers 550sqm of lifestyle mobility and diagnostic tools, which can provide the OTB technicians with 3D imaging and simulations of patients limbs, ensuring accurate measurements are taken. When combined with the 200sqm OTB Workshop, which is located in Rashid Hospital’s Department of Physical Therapy, it means that patients receive complete turnkey measurement, casting, delivery and fitting without the need to travel outside the country, making it the perfect combination of medical accomplishments and human knowledge in the field of orthopaedics and rehabilitation.
Al Murooshid said: “The new centre and facilities provide patients that have any kind of disability with access to state-of-art treatment facilities as well as high-quality products including artificial limbs. The most important benefit is that now these products will be available locally at competitive prices, ensuring patients do not need to place an order abroad. This move will cut the waiting time, thus providing patients who suffer from any kind of disability with easy access to high quality treatment and care”.
Prof. Hans Bauerfeind, said on establishing the OTB Centre and Workshop: “We have been given the rare privilege as a world renowned brand to locate our 200 square metre workshop at the hospital itself, which means our patients have direct access to our solutions and services. All kinds of medical aids and preventive aids as support to athletes and amateurs can be found at the Bauerfeind Centre at the Rashid Hospital, and the support we’ve received from the team here, and the Dubai Health Authority has been tremendous.”
The Centre displays the entire range of the Bauerfeind company: Rehabilitation programme, Orthopaedic programme, Phlebology compression stockings, prosthetics, orthotics and bandaging and sports orthotic insoles.
